Well, as we've had the worst song or most annoying songs, what do you think is one of the best songs or pieces of music ever written. It can be anything, any style of music, for any reason you want, or no reason in particular. Choose as many or as little as you like.
For me, one of the best songs is Oasis: wonder wall. Ok, I know it isn't musically the most complex piece ever, but that was the first song ever that got me in to rock music, and gave me my interest, or inspiration you might say, to learn electric guitar. It's just a song I can relate to really well, and it brings back a lot of good memories. I'd really be interested in your responces.
Hmmmm, there's so many for me...cold misuery waters, james keelaghan, Fields of athenry, think it's traditional, Where have all the Flowers gone by pete seeger, elis unit one by steve earle and Mercy now by mary gottier
Hmm The Sacrament of Love HIM. Angel with the scabbed wings Marilyn Manson. Flower of Scotland and Scots Wha Hae.
<grin> funny thing, seeing as WonderWall has little to no electric guitar in it, it's an acoustic based one (although there is an electric in the background) <grin>yet an awesome song I do agree.
There are so many good songs out there it's almost impossible for me to choose. The entire "Blood Sugar sex Magic" album from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers is amazing, especially "Sir Psycho Sexy" despite its rather naive title, musically it's a fantastic song, "Run" and "Chocolate" by Snow Patrol, "Stay Together", "the Beautiful Ones" and "Animal Nitrate" by Suede, "AShtray" by "the Din Pedals", "Erase, Rewind" by the Cardigans, "Rain" by "Breaking Benjamin", "Flugufrelsarinn" by the Icelandic band "Sigur Ros" just to name a very few, any song that has a certain feel or atmosphere to it .. oh ;) the best song of all time, for me, is "Street Spirit" by "Radiohead" a chilling song, also "Angel" by Massive Attack" as well as the rst of that album <grin> so, you see, endless number of songs really.
Ah wow. Talk about tough decisions! Here are some of my favourites, in no particular order,
for the love of god by steve vai, under a glass moon, and, fatal tradgedy by dream theater, operation mind crime by queensryche, sweet emotion by aerosmith, every song rush ever recorded!, wild horses, and, you got me rock'in now, by the rolling stones, the live version of sorrow by pink floyd off of the pulse album, roundabout, and, owner of a lonely heart by yes, behind blue eyes by the who, wasting love, and, thin line between love and hate by iron maiden, immigrant song by led zeppelin, under the bridge by the red hot chili peppers, landslide by fleetwood mac, hanger eighteen by megadeath, carolina hard core extasy, and, black napkins by frank zappa, real by bumblefoot, stevie ray vhon's version of little wing, any django rineheart tune, any robert johnson tune, and the list goes on...
I'll deviate here for a minute..Un Bel De Vedremo Madame Butterfly Puccini..Nessun Dorma...Vissi D'arte Sung by the incomprable Maria Callas.
Bohemian wrapsody and tubular bels. I also like Greek music but you wouldn't know any of it.
Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique is absolutely brilliant. Also "Under The Bridge" by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, "So Real" by Jeff Buckley, "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, "Twilight" by Elliot Smith, "Somebody" by Depeche Mode.
As many have stated, to even attempt to boil this list down to just one track would be an exorcise in futility. I think as much as anything else the music you find yourself listening too and absolutely connecting with is effected by the mood you're in at any given time.
To try and bring some clarity to my thoughts I'd have to say that almost anything by either Coldplay or Sarah McLachlan is a good starting place for me. Neither of them are particularly fascinating lyrically speaking, though Sarah McLachlan has her moments, but musically I can easily get lost in either.
I think that lyrically speaking, if not actually a dead set favourite, Nothing ever happens by Del Amitri would have to come pretty close. I think that to be a superb track.
I have to agree with whom ever it was above who cast Queen's bohemian rhapsody into the melting pot of opinion. My reasons for agreeing with that call come more from a production vent. I have some experience of recording studios and the amount of work that can often go into even the simplest sounding songs can be far greater than many people with no recording experience often realize. Bohemian rhapsody was a master stroke of both production and engineering skills. Whether you love or hate the song doesn't change the fact. Also it should be remembered that it was put together in a pre-digital age. Not just the easy cut and paste job that the same track probably would be today. In short, it was a stunning piece of work.
Of course this is a subject that I could probably ramble on in indefinitely but I'll spare you that! lol.
I hope you Dance, Roaring Mountain Overture, My Hips don't lie, Mazama, pageant, definitely Pageant
One of the best songs I've ever heard would have to be Holy Mountains by System of a Down. Next to that would have to be Toxicity which is also by System.
